That is the address of the home I grew up in. I hadn't been back to the old neighborhood in about 10 years, but my niece, who is visiting this summer from college wanted me to take her to "the shack" her mother grew up in. Well, the house is Gone!, bulldozed I don't know when. All that is standing now is a fenced in piece of overgrown land, so pathetic! The big old cypress tree is still there though, the very same tree my mother would grab switches off of and threaten to whip us with! Take that Kate! It's so amazing how small that piece of land looks to me now, just tiny. It was the style of a ShotGun house like they have in Louisiana, strange. I wish I had taken a picture of it before it was bulldozed down. I called my sisters when we left and they all had different reactions regarding it being gone. My mom was kindof sad when I told her, I thought she would cry, but she didn't. I have clear memories of the house in my mind, I just close my eyes and there I am sitting in the den or taking a bath in that old clawfoot tub, I never had a shower till I was 12.
I remember Joey and Alex, Sandy and Leeanne, Susy and Dawn, all these kids from my old neighborhood. I wonder what they are up to now. We lived in a coldesack which allowed for kids to play in the streets without getting run over. The house next door is still there, the house that had "rootbeer" the German Shepard. That dog attacked me when I was 5 years old! I remember!
I also remember the mexicans that lived next door, I think they were the original gangmembers back then, not a nice group.
I remember rollerskating and bicycle riding and other strange things.
I'm not sad about it being gone, I will continue to visit that house in my dreams.
